Searching and Filtering Your People
Searching and Filtering Your People
The People page is where you can view everyone your organisation works with. As your database grows, searching and filtering becomes essential for finding the right people quickly. This guide explains all the ways you can do that.
Getting to the People page
Click on People in the sidebar on the left-hand side of your screen. You will see a table listing all of the people in your database.
Searching by name
At the top of the People page you will find a search bar. Type a person's name (or part of their name) and the table will filter in real time to show matching results.
This is the quickest way to find a specific individual when you know who you are looking for.
Filtering by fields and tags
For more advanced searching, you can apply filters to narrow down the list. Click the filter icon or "Add Filter" button near the top of the page.
You can filter by any of the fields on your people's profiles, for example:
Tags — Show only people with a particular tag (e.g. "Youth Club", "Volunteer").
Postcode or area — Find people from a specific location.
Date fields — For example, people who registered after a certain date.
Demographic fields — Such as age group, gender, or any custom fields you have created.
You can combine multiple filters at once. For example, you could filter for "people tagged with 'After School Club' who live in a particular borough".
Sorting the table
You can sort the table by clicking on any column header. Click once to sort in ascending order, and click again to sort in descending order. This is useful for sorting alphabetically by name, or by most recently added.
Customising table columns
By default the People table shows a few key columns (name, email, phone, etc.), but you can customise which columns are visible.
Look for the column settings option (usually an icon near the top-right of the table). From here you can add or remove columns to show the fields that matter most to you — for example, you might want to display tags, postcode or a custom field alongside names.
Viewing a person's profile
To view full details about someone, simply click on their name in the table. This will take you to their Member Details page, where you can see all of their information, edit their details, view their attendance history and more.
For more on what you can do on a person's profile, see the guide on Member Details.
Tips for keeping your data tidy
Use tags consistently — Tags are one of the most powerful ways to organise your people. Decide on a naming convention and stick to it.
Merge duplicates — If the same person appears twice, you can merge their profiles. See the guide on How to merge two profiles on Plinth.
Keep fields up to date — Encourage members to update their details via registration forms, or update them yourself from the Member Details page.
