Exporting Data from Plinth

Whether you need to share numbers with a funder, create your own analysis in Excel, or simply keep a backup of your data, Plinth makes it easy to export information from several places across the platform.

Exporting from the People table

You can export your entire people list — or a filtered subset — straight from the People page.

Step 1: Go to People in the sidebar.

Step 2: Apply any filters you need. For example, you might filter by a specific tag, date range, or demographic field. If you want to export everyone, skip this step.

Step 3: Click the Export button (usually near the top of the table).

Step 4: Choose your preferred file format (Excel or CSV) and the download will start.

The exported file will include whatever columns are currently visible in your table. If you need additional fields in your export, make sure you add them as columns before exporting (see Searching and Filtering Your People for how to customise columns).

Exporting from Reporting

The Reporting section lets you create graphs, maps and tables — and all of these can be exported.

Step 1: Go to Reporting in the sidebar.

Step 2: Create or open the report you want to export.

Step 3: When viewing a graph or table, look for the export to Excel option. If you select "Table with chart", the Excel file will include both a data table and a pre-formatted chart.

You can also drill down into any graph by clicking on a bar, segment or map area. This shows the individual people who make up that data point, and you can export that list too.

For a full guide to creating reports, see Insights and reporting on your data.

Exporting survey results

After people have completed a survey, you can export all of the responses.

Step 1: Go to Surveys/Outcomes in the sidebar.

Step 2: Select the survey you want to export.

Step 3: Click View Responses.

Step 4: From the responses view, click the Export button to download the results as an Excel file.

The export will include every response, with each survey question as a column and each respondent as a row.

Exporting attendance data

If you need to export attendance records (for example, to share with a funder or commissioner), you can do this through Reporting. Create an Attendances report, apply the relevant date range and filters, and then export to Excel using the steps above.

Tips for clean exports

  • Filter first, export second — Apply filters before exporting so you only download the data you actually need.

  • Check your columns — Make sure the columns you need are visible in the table before exporting from the People page.

  • Use tags — Tagging people and events consistently makes it much easier to pull out the right data when you need it.

  • Save reports — If you regularly export the same report (e.g. quarterly for a funder), save it in Reporting so you can come back to it quickly without re-creating filters each time.

If you need help with a specific export or cannot find the data you need, use the chat widget in the bottom-right corner and our team will be happy to help.
